FAQ’s

Who’s Invited? Can I attend if I’m not sober?

The Recovery Happy Hour Retreat is designed for those who live or want to live an alcohol-free life.  You do not need to have a minimum amount of sober time to attend this retreat.  We are a sober community and expectations of a sober gathering are explicit.  Drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited during all events throughout the weekend. If you are actively drinking and are at risk of physical detox symptoms or alcohol-related withdrawal, it is not recommended that you attend this event.

Will Tricia be there?

Yes, Tricia is hosting the entire weekend and will be actively participating in all of the workshops and social activities.  If you are a listener of the podcast, this will be an opportunity to get to know her in person.

Can I split up the weekend and attend only part of the retreat?

No, the weekend is one event and attendance at all the workshops and social events is recommended.

Do I have to stay at the hotel?

No.  If you are local or want to stay somewhere else you are welcome to, just meet us at the Magnolia Hotel each morning for workshops, and each evening for group transportation to our social events.  Dallas is full of great hotels and Air B&B’s.

What exactly are we doing?

The entire list of workshops is not yet confirmed, but we will be working hard on your recovery and having FUN with other people who are passionate about living an alcohol-free life.  Workshops at the hotel will be from 8:30am-5:30pm and we will be going out as a group both nights. More details will be announced closer to January.

Can I bring my significant other or a friend?

You are welcome to bring them to the retreat if they are a paying retreat ticket holder.  The weekend activities are designed specifically for people who want to learn more about living an alcohol free life or to work on their existing recovery.

What airport do I fly into?

Dallas Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW) offers the most flights and is approximately a 30 minute drive to the hotel.

Dallas Love Field (DAL) offers flights on Southwest Airlines and is approximately a 10 minute drive to the hotel.

How do I get to the hotel from the airport?

Dallas has most ride share companies such as Lyft and Uber.  There are also plenty of traditional taxi cab companies, the DART rail and rental car companies at both airports. The DART orange line from DFW airport to downtown Dallas DART stations is approximately 1 hour travel time and costs $2.50 for a single ride.  For more information, visit https://www.dart.org/riding/dartrailorangeline.asp#rail

Will I need a vehicle during the retreat?

Transportation for all retreat events Friday and Saturday will be included.  You will need to arrange your own transportation to and from the airport.  If you are staying in Dallas for extra time, having a car is helpful but not necessary with the ample amount of ride share companies.

I’m driving to the retreat.  Where can I leave my car?

The hotel offers overnight valet parking for $32 per night and $18 day-of valet.  There are also more cost effective retail parking garages close by.

How many people will be there?

The retreat is capped at 30 guests.

What are the social events at night?

Off-site dinners and entertainment are currently being scheduled but they will be FUN!

Will we be sightseeing in Dallas?

The weekend is packed with events specifically for your recovery so there are no planned excursions specific to sightseeing but we will visit different areas of central Dallas at night for our social activities.  If you’d like to see more of the Dallas/Ft Worth area, it is recommended you extend your stay.

What do I need to pack?  What is the weather like in Dallas?

You do not need to pack anything special beyond what you’d need for a regular weekend trip.  Wear clothes you can move around in during the daytime workshops and the evening events will be casual.  The weather in Texas is unpredictable but average temperatures in January are in the 50’s during the day and 40’s at night.

What if I sign up and need to cancel?

Cancellations before Thursday December 1 - full refund less a $50 processing fee.

Cancellations before Thursday December 15- 50% refund less a $50 processing fee
